The appeal of Oak Estates and its neighbor on the east side of between Westheimer on the south and San Felipe on the north is their close-to-everything location and “next door” proximity to River Oaks.

Home owners in these neighboring communities have an easy walk to retailers and restaurants in Highland Village, the Looscan Library, and schools that include River Oaks Baptist School and St. Johns School. Nearby River Oaks Park, aka Pumpkin Park, features playground equipment, tennis courts, a basketball court, and a civic building.  Nearby, the private Briar Club has its own swimming, tennis, dining, and workout facilities.

Oak Estates was developed in the 1940s on the former grounds of a private sports club by S.N. Adams with approximately 150 home sites.  Significant numbers of vintage homes in both neighborhoods have been replaced by more recent, larger construction, attracted to these neighborhoods by lot sizes that range from 8,500 to 17,000 square feet. The newer homes range in style from Mediterranean and Georgian to French and, in Oak Estates, a number of new Contemporary homes.

Both neighborhoods’ property owners associations adamantly preserve their subdivisions’ integrity by enforcing deed restrictions. Home owners have back-door trash pick-up and constables hired by the property owners association patrol the area. Oak Estates is noted for beautiful oak trees and a quiet, neighborly ambience.
